Overview

COOP by Ryder & designed by Double 9's is a cutting-edge platform that lets your business unlock the ability to rent and list quality trailers and trucks, tractors, and vans that are part of a Ryder lease or maintenance program all in one place. We’re using strong design fundamentals and years of service backed by large establishments to empower your company to maximize the potential of their fleet operations.

Challenge

companies in the transportation and logistics industry were facing significant challenges when trying to rent trailers and tractors through an outdated, complex website. The UX of the site were not optimized for modern needs, making it difficult for users to navigate and complete their rental transactions efficiently.

  • Complicated navigation
  • Rental process was unclear & led to confusion

Design Exploration

Previous COOP by Ryder design was made 5 years ago and fell short of converting rentals and getting engagement so it was time for a redesign. For the redesign we analyzed & extensively researched competitors such as FedEx, DHL & UPS and noticed a huge gap in our competitors and how confusing they made it to rent a trailer so we strived for simplicity which not only enhanced the UX, but also drove continuous interaction with the rental community.

Use Cases

  • As a user I need to able to ask the truck owner details about the truck before renting
  • As a user I need to be able to have a seamless messaging system to transfer any documents or important information
  • As a user I need to be able to extend or modify a rental, if needed
  • As a user I need to have good customer support access for any urgent concerns

Design Process

Collaborating with three product managers and one other designer, I was mainly tasked on tackling the cards for the trailers and other homepage components such as filter dropdown popup modals for specifying which type of vehicle you want to rent.

I designed these with simplicity in mind, putting my feet in the user's shoes, constantly thinking how they would want a UI to look like when they are trying to get the job done with their busy schedules instead of having to learn completely new software. After gathering feedback and making iterative changes, we ended up with designs that were not only easy to use and intuitive, but aesthetically pleasing and made the user feel at ease when doing their job.

The Results

  • Sneed Leasing went from 78% to 98% fleet utilization
  • Everglades Harvesting quickly secured over 30 specialized rentals due to ease of use
  • Major international textile company secured over 20 chassis trailers on-demand

What I learned

  • Accessibility is a very important part of UX and is instrumental to new users understanding your designs
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders from start to finish
